make this life seem ever more terrifying

for theirs were fulfilled lives at least.

Comforts are either too much

or too little in the Gilded Age.

The river of no return sobs for

the unheeded pebbles and mussels,

The will to idle

easily overwhelms

the will to create

for no good reason

other than the fact

that the moon is waning
